Hi, my name is Jeshaiah, and I am an Activator. You can have your three-hour long meetings and intense caffeine-powered brainstorming sessions, but as an Activator, I would rather jump straight into the action and learn on the job. I learn best when I'm trying things out and putting what I've learnt into action. I love hands-on work and projects and I love practicing on my guitar. In short, I am action-oriented.
I may not always succeed on the first time, but neither did Thomas Edison. What's most important to me is I learn from the mistakes that I've made which gives me useful and practical advice as to how best to do things. Most of the time, when my friends ask, "where do we go for lunch?" I'm the one who will start moving and I will pull others along. Usually, that gets people on the move. Somehow, if the decision was overruled by a majority, we simply reverse course and head the other way. At least a decision was made and it's action-oriented.
If I need to get to a particular place that is new, my first course of action will be to get moving and figure out possible routes on the move rather than stand at a spot and ponder, since that doesn't bring me any closer to my end goal. If I have to turn around because I walked the wrong way, that is not a failure to me. That is a lesson learned. Similar to lessons learned on the job, they are key to helping me remember details for the future.
However, I do recognise that there are downsides to being an Activator. Oftentimes, the people who will ask me, "have we considered everything?" are correct in their implied statement that we haven't. Since I'm always the one jumping ahead, I tend to make mistakes when I move too fast. Also, the fast pace at which I tend to do things can often overwhelm people who can't seem to catch up. This tends to make them even more disheartened and discouraged about trying to work with me.
On a whole, the downsides have made me learn to see the benefits of slowing down and taking a second glance, as the different perspectives gathered can greatly alter my mindset and teach me to look out for other factors, especially people, before I act. With my Activator theme, you can count on me to be a catalyst and start the engine for the team.
